Conditional sentences or if clauses are used to describe conditions and results. There is an if clause that tells you the condition (if you read this post) and a main clause that describes the result (you will master conditionals).

There are four main types of conditional sentences.

ZERO CONDITIONAL

Structure: if + present simple, … present simple

You can also reverse the order: You get sunburnt if you lie in the sun too long. (No comma is necessary in this case)

It is high time we created an inclusive and positive neurodiverse environment. Here are some key strategies to make your texts more accessible for EVERYONE.

How to make your text more accessible

Font and Text Formatting

Fonts: Fonts sans serif like Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, or OpenDyslexic are easier to read.
Avoid Italics and All-Caps: Italicized or CAPITALISED text can be difficult to read.
Use Bold for Emphasis: Rather than italics or underlining, bold can help highlight important points.
Adequate Font Size: Use a minimum of 12-14pt.

Line Spacing and Paragraphing

Use 1.5 or Double Spacing: Adequate spacing between lines helps reduce visual clutter.
Short Paragraphs: Break text into smaller paragraphs.
Avoid Justified Text: Left-aligned text with a ragged right edge is easier to follow.

Colour Contrast

High Contrast: Use high-contrast colour combinations, like black text on a white background or black text on pastel colours.

Clear Layout and Structure

Consistent and Clear Layout: Maintain the same layout and avoid multiple columns.
Headings and Subheadings: Use clear headings to break down the text.
Bullet Points and Lists: Organise content using lists to make it easier to scan.

Simple and Clear Language

Plain Language: Avoid complex sentence structures.
Short Sentences: Use concise, direct sentences. Full stop.

¿POR O PARA? Es la eterna duda que surge en la cabeza de todos los estudiantes de español. Vamos a ver si podemos aclarar un poco las cosas.

Para entender bien los usos más basilares de estas dos preposiciones podemos dibujar dos flechas: POR va para atrás, busca el motivo, y es una flecha con un movimiento circular, gira y camina por la ciudad, por la calle… mientras que PARA va hacia adelante, directamente de un lugar a otro, de una persona a la otra.

PAST SIMPLE vs. PRESENT PERFECT

Have you ever been to Tokyo? – Yes, I have.
When did you go? – I went there 2 years ago.

We use the present perfect (I have been) when we talk about a life experience and we don’t specify when it happened. On the other hand, we use the past simple (I went) when we talk about that specific past experience (and we often give a time reference, for example: yesterday, two weeks ago, last year…).

El pingüino encima del iceberg le ha dicho al que estaba en el mar: “NADA”. Este es el imperativo del verbo NADAR (pero sabemos que en español NADA significa también “niente”). El imperativo se usa para dar órdenes o indicaciones…para no terminar como el pingüino, ¡APRÉNDELO!

El imperativo afirmativo de TÚ y VOSOTROS es muy fácil.

¡Vamos a aclararlo de una vez! Después de leer este post y practicar un poco seguro que estará todo más claro que el agua.

El pretérito indefinido es un tiempo verbal muy importante en español y que a veces puede resultar un poco complicado.

Es muy importante porque se usa mucho: en todos los países hispanos de América y en algunas zonas de España el pretérito perfecto (yo he ido) casi no se usa. Además, en español cuando hablamos de acciones pasadas terminadas tenemos que usar este tiempo verbal.

HAY / ESTÁ-ESTÁN: cómo traducir al español “c’è/ci sono”

¡Hola a tod@s! Hoy vamos a hablar de un problema muy común que tenemos a la hora de traducir al español frases como: oggi c’è una festa ma Laura non c’è.

En español la frase sería: hoy hay una fiesta, pero Laura no está.
Pues…para decir “c’è/ci sono” podemos utilizar el verbo HABER o el verbo ESTAR. Pero ¿cómo elegir el verbo adecuado?

HABER –> hay: corresponde al italiano “c’è/ci sono”. Es una forma invariable (=es igual para singular y plural: Hay una silla/hay dos sillas). Se usa HAY con sujetos indeterminados.
ESTAR –> está (singular) – están (plural) se utilizan para localizar en el espacio algo o alguien que se conoce. Se usa con sujeto determinado.
